MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday directed the CB-CID to complete the investigation in Avaniyapuram custodial death case by the end of January 2022. A Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice M Duraiswamy gave the direction in a suo motu petition filed over suspicious withdrawal of the custodial death petition by the parents of the victim before the court in 2019.
Madurai: Madras high court on Saturday sought response from four people allegedly responsible for withdrawal of a case filedby a man in connection with the custodial death of his son at Avaniyapuram police station in Madurai in 2019. A division benchof Justices T S Sivagnanam and S Ananthi said they do not agree with the submissions of petitioner Muthukaruppan’s counselthat the petition was filed by his client in his private capacity and he has every right to withdraw it.

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Saturday directed all the parties involved in the
Avaniapuram custodial death case to file their counter affidavits.
The court had taken up the matter suo motu after it was alleged the father of the victim was
coerced to withdraw his petition seeking a CBI probe into the incident that took place in 2019.

The judges observed that Muthukaruppan had filed a petition seeking justice for his son.
