CHENNAI: The CB-CID police probing the anti-Sterlite activist R S Mugilan missing case on Thursday informed the Madras high court that they have got “important lead” in the case.
Additional public prosecutor R Prathap Kumar made the submission before a division bench of Justice M M Sundaresh and M Nirmal Kumar while producing the status report of the probe in a sealed cover.

Madurai: Observing that it is the fundamental right of the people to protest in a peaceful manner, the Madurai bench of the Madras high court has directed the sub-divisional magistrate/ sub-collector of Tuticorin not to pass any final orders in the proceedings initiated under Sections 107 and 111 CrPC against anti-Sterlite protesters. It further directed the police not to issue summons to the protesters.

MADURAI: If it was not for the high court intervention and the timely judgments, things would have been worse in Thoothukudi," read a report from NGO People’s Watch, which was released during the first anniversary of the Tuticorin police firings, in which 13 people were killed and hundreds injured.
The courts made several significant directives in the case which rattled the conscience of the public in recent times. If not for the court’s intervention, the investigation would have still been with the state police and not much would have come out of it, said the NGO.
Chennai: The Madras high court on Friday directed the Egmore police to file a status report on the action taken pursuant to a complaint seeking to trace anti-Sterlite activist Mugilan, who has been allegedly missing since February 15.
A division bench of Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice M Nirmal Kumar passed the interim order on the habeas corpus petition moved by human rights activist Henri Tiphange seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu police to trace and produce the anti-Sterlite activist.
Rights outfits hold protest to trace Mugilan
A large number of people from human rights organizations and various political parties took part in a protest in Madurai on Thursday organized to urge the state government and the police department to find the whereabouts of social activist Mugilan.
